Job Hunter Tips For a Successful Interview

  • Are you looking for a new job?

  • Have an important job interview coming up?

  • Not sure what outfit to wear so that you look the part to get the part?

Color choices are an important part of planning a great interview look as they can be used to communicate a positive attitude to your potential employer.

Some Very Basic Tips on What Colors To Wear to a Job Interview and What To Wear

FIrst of all- you probably want to be wearing a suit, regardless of your gender. The color of the suit you wear to your interview should be either

  • gray
  • navy,

  • or black

You should also wear a watch to your interview, as this sends a subconcious or concious signal that you are a timely person (who respects deadlines, etc). So be early for the interview to make sure you are on time.

For shirts and tie colors to wear to a job interview , the following are the best options:

  1. Blue sends out the signal that you are honest and calm. If you could pair blue with yellow, the color combination suggests honest and cheerful.
  2. White sends out the signal of order. Red sends out the signal of power. A combination of the two suggests someone who is in charge and organized.

When wearing these colors, be subtle. A bold print won't work as well as a crisp white shirt and a red tie or a blue shirt with small gold (i.e: yellow) stud earrings. Understated when you are interviewing for a job.

Cheers!

I think it is necessary to have some knowledge of your employer before deciding what to wear.

The role colour plays on the psyche is quite powerful and it certainly would be useful to know about the company before you decide, then you could use it to your advantage in many ways.

What if you are working in an industry that would not support a suit? and a suit would make you look stuffy?

is suit realy important?

I had a guy (as a recruiter) go for a job in a suit for a warehouse position - it got him the job over others because although not a suited position it showed he gave a damn, he had the 'goods' to back it up but it showed he was serious and wanted to progress with them.

If you dont wear a suit to an interview..your probably poor

@ Jeff, if you spell you're y-o-u-r, you are probably uneducated! And there's nothing wrong with being poor! However, there is no excuse for being ignorant.

I agree with Jessica.

Hi,

Gray suit, wear a white shirt and yellow or red tie

black suit, wear a white or blue shirt with any colour tie you

Navy suit, where a white shirt and any tie.

Read about the company and take 2 seconds before you answer any questions, dont cross your arms or legs and take a pad and pen or folder to take notes, and have your notes in there too! good luck, a suit and color does not matter only that you look good and professional to iron your shirt and no stains please :) lol

Cheers
